Eileen's Hairdressers first opened in 1958 on Granville Street off Anlaby Road in Hull. Eileen was just 23 years old and had worked at a top city centre salon of its day, called Ruby Banks, before opening her own business.
In 1960 Eileen moved to a bigger and better premises on Anlaby Road. After that things really took off, employing more staff, the salon was so busy that by the mid sixties, Eileen bought the shop next door making it into a large double fronted salon, employing around 8 stylists and apprentices.
In 1980 Eileen downsized the shop due to family commitments, which went down very well with both customers and staff as they all commented on how the shop had a more warm and personal feel about it.
In 2001 Eileen retired and the shop changed its name to The Hair Shop By Eileen which was more modern and the start of a new era. Her three daugthers, Elizabeth, Louise and Serena now run The Hair Shop by Eileen and are still carrying on the tradition of Eileen's Hairdressers.
