More about The Deep
The Deep is an indoor attraction that offers a fun-filled family day out for all ages. Offering a unique blend of stunning marine life, fun interatives and audio-visual presentations, that together tell the dramatic story of the world's oceans.
Journey from the birth of the oceans into the future, travel from tropical lagoons to the icy waters of Antarctica. As you descend deeper into the oceans, come face to face with sharks, rays, shimmering golden trevally and hundreds of other exotic species.
Walk through one of the world's deepest viewing tunnels, whilst sharks and incredible saw fish glide overhead. Finally, rise up through the 10 metre tank in our famous glass lift.
Current exhibitions include 'Living Rivers', where we take a look at five of the world's major river systems including the Amazon in Brazil, the Mekong in China and the Betsiboka in Madagascar. Living Rivers is home to a range of fascinating species including red-bellied piranhas, leaf cutter ants, emerald tree boa, blue poision arrow frog and axolotls.
Also visit the Amazon Flooded Forest, which is home to striking species including Geoffroy's side necked turtles, silver arowana and pacu.
The Deep has won a selection of awards since it opened in 2002 which include the Gold Access for All Award in the Enjoy England Awards 2011, the gold award for The Green Tourism Business Scheme and silver for Large Visitor Attraction of the Year 2009 (Welcome to Yorkshire’s White Rose Awards).
