Nursery Rooms
Baby Room - Poppy (0 - 1yrs)
At this very early stage, babies are gaining competence in observing and responding to their immediate environment and communicating with those around them. The Baby Room focuses on tactile activities that stimulate and encourage development. This room reflects a "home-from-home" environment providing a gentle transition from home to nursery life.
Toddler Rooms - Daisy (12 - 18m) & Blue Bell (18m - 2yrs)
At this age, children begin exploring their environment with increasing mobility and language. The Toddler Rooms enable these skills to flourish using age appropriate furniture and play resources that encourage children to extend themselves both physically and imaginatively by exploration of the world around them.
Foundation Room - Snow Drop (2 - 3yrs)
With your childs growing independence and the development of their own distinctive personality, our focus moves to developing a range of life, social and self-help skills. Activities such as circle time, shared meal times, dressing skills and toilet support this stage. During this time, children are introduced to a more structured day in preparation for the learning that lies ahead of them.
Pre School Room - Buttercup (3 - 5yrs)
As confidence grows and children demonstrate skills in building relationships, our activities are structured to emphasise the Early Learning Goals for the development of pre-school children. Knowledge is enhanced through purposeful play and children are introduced to a wide variety of learning opportunities such as early reading and number skills, mark-making, imaginative play and ICT.
Outdoor Play (all agers)
All the children's rooms have direct access to dedicated landscaped play space, which is used as an extension of the base room to enhance the provision and development opportunities available to your child.
There is also a covered area to enable the children to play outdoors in all weathers. The Early Years foundation Stage (EYFS) puts a lot of emphasis on the outdoor learning environment and the quality of adult interaction with the child. We see our outdoor provision as an important part of your child's day and your child will have supervised access to the garden whenever they wish.
Nursery Curriculum
The curriculum offered at Butterflies Children's Day Nursery offers each child the chance to develop their experiences, learning skills and all-round development at their own pace.
Each room offers experiences appropriate to the childs age and incorporates both indoor and outdoor activities. There are opportunities for children to work as part of a group and as an individual thereby promoting social interaction and self confidence.
Children learn most effectively when they are having fun and enjoying their activities and so, Learning Through Play is embraced throughout our curriculum. Clearly, different ages work towards different goals; these are grouped as under threes and over threes.
Under Threes
Butterflies Children's Day Nursery operates within the "Early Years Foundation Stage" which recognises the holistic nature of development and learning at this age, with an emphasis on learning through interaction with people and discovery of the world around them. The framework identifies the individuality, efforts and achievements of children under the age of three and that learning and development takes place in all areas of provision.
Over Threes
From the Toddler Room onwards, we work within the Early Years Foundation Stage guidelines. The curriculum offers a chance of learning through both planned activities and child-led activities that cover the six early learning goals. Butterflies Children's Day Nursery room layout, furniture, resources and outdoor play areas ensure that children have constant access and choice to the many areas that support their learning and development.
Our Curriculum is planned, evaluated and implemented to allow for a broad experience in readiness for the transition of the child from nursery to school.

Meals
At Butterflies Children's Day Nursery each mealtime is a happy, relaxed, social occasion where childrens natural curiosity for exploring is extended through the introduction of new tastes and textures. Children sit in small groups and a member of staff joins the children and leads by example, helping to serve and encouraging communication and conversation.
Nutrition
Our nutritional policy takes into account best practice with a minimum of five different portions of fruit and vegetables being served each day. Where ever possible, these are sourced from local suppliers.
Food is freshly prepared on site by a qualified chef who has an understanding of nutrition, hygiene and menu planning. Drinking water is available to the children throughout the day.
Menus
Our menus are healthy, well balanced and planned to meet the nutritional needs of children. The weekly menu plan is displayed on the parent notice board and each week sees a different menu to ensure interest and variety. The menus reflect a diversity of cultures, enhancing childrens experiences of the wider world. We respect and accommodate individual dietary requirements whether medical, cultural or religiously based. If you would like a copy of our four weekly menu please ask and we will be happy to supply you with one.
Please let us know if your child has a food allergy which we should be aware of.
Babies
A comprehensive weaning menu is in place for young babies. Formula milk is not provided for babies and parents are asked to bring milk feeds made up for the day. The Baby Room has a milk preparation area and we welcome breast-feeding mothers by providing storage for expressed milk.
Out of School Club / Holiday Club
Here at Butterflies we recognise that busy working lives do not always fit in with school hours. So alongside the nursery we provide an out of school club to care for children between the hours of 7.00am and 6.30pm when they are not in school.
This facility is available for children between the ages of 5 and 12yrs.We have two mini buses both fully equipped with car seats and pick up points include Burton Pidsea, Roos, Thorngumbald, Preston, Market Hill and Inmans Primary School.
Children can be dropped at the club from 7.00am where they can have breakfast and play in our specially equipped out of school room. They are then transported to school via the mini bus accompanied by staff who will see them safely into school.
After school the children are once again collected by staff and transported safely back to Butterflies where they are offered a snack, tea and time to play and take part in activities before being collected anytime up to 6.30pm.
Facilities include a large, staffed, fully equipped room for the exclusive use of our out of school club. Activities offered include arts and crafts, baking, games consoles, board games, a role play area, outdoor activities and a chill out and television area. Staff are on hand to assist with homework and reading.
In addition to term time we also offer a holiday club during school holidays. As well as the above activities we also have fun days out to such places as bowling, the cinema, days at the beach, trips to museums, Honeysuckle Farm, picnics and much more. The holiday club is open to children from all schools.
